About Me
SOZEN, also known as Evan Kurohara, is an audio engineer who has spent 10 years developing his skills in recording, mixing, and mastering across a wide range of music genres and podcasts.
SOZEN has worked with professional labels, sync agencies, and local independent talents across these years to develop a sound knowledge of industry standards.
Born and Raised in Hilo, Hawaii, SOZEN began his journey in music as a DJ in late-college at UH Mānoa, taking extracurricular online courses in music on the side of his psychology degree. After graduating he spent a few years gaining local traction; supporting acts for Audiophile, BAMP, Electric Palms, and residencies at Nextdoor and Artistry nightclubs.
SOZEN interned at the former Blue Planet Sound in 2018, which led to a pivot into audio engineering when starting work with Osna at OPP Studios in late 2020. For the next few years, SOZEN was recording, mixing, and mastering indie clients of all genres up until starting work at a local agency named TheBrewz in early 2024, where he would become an in-house recording, mixing, & vocal engineer.
SOZEN has collaborated with local artists including Boys Of The Ocean (Daju, 8RO8, Lucky Roux, ThankQ, Devin Cheff, Van.Png, Joetae, GiantJeri), Osnizzle, TheBrewz, 2K Kenny, IA, and PartyFoul, as well as podcasts such as The What School Could Be Podcast, Keep It Aloha, The Village HI, Aloha From Hawaiʻi, Puka Pockets, Sit Down Hawaii, and other various local shows.
